When I saw how this piece could materialize, it gave me real pleasure. I remember my mother telling me, back in 1969, "If your grandmother were alive, you would have had to have made a debut." As a woman, the way we are seen, what society expects, and how we think of ourselves is a recurring theme in my work. This piece may be viewed as humorous or as serious, or as both. I wish my grandmother were alive to see it.
